Jingle What?

We’re planning a big Christmas party for our students and their parents on Christmas Eve day, and we’d like the children to be able to sing a few Christmas songs in English.
So, today we started learning Jingle Bells and awww maaaan.  I tried SO hard not to giggle, but they’re just so gosh darn cute!

ABC’s & Il, Ee, Sam’s

Having studied journalism at the prestigious, up-and-coming Walter Cronkite School at ASU, the big words were always so important to me.  In order to “prove” you were a good journalism student, you had to speak eloquently and use fancy words.
Here, it’s the little words I’m finding I have to stress the importance of: articles such [...]

Lost (Laughing) in Translation

We may be 16 hours ahead of you Arizonians, but we’re just now catching up to the rest of the western world with this whole swine flu epidemic.
The hagwon where one of my friends works at in Seoul was quarantined today. They’re all being tested and are having to take their temperatures twice a day.  [...]

My Seoul Purpose

It’s after midnight now and I’m having a blast picking off tiny wads of paper from my wet clothes as I hang them to dry.
Apparently,  I had a piece of paper in one of my jeans pockets.
Damnit.  Hate it when that happens.
I’m exhausted.  I just finished an intense 1 1/2 hour late night jam session [...]

Try Wiggling Yourself Outta This One!

So…… I had an interesting lunch today…..
Remember those peanuts I proudly mentioned the other day that Mrs. Lee had grown herself?  Yeah.  We were snackin’ on those things pretty good that day.
Well, Mrs. Lee pulled some more out during today’s lunch and microwaved ‘em so they’d be soft and hot (that’s how they eat them [...]

This One’s for You, V

Friday and Saturday were pretty boring for me because I was locked up in my room, sick. I couldn’t attend the birthday festivities Friday at school, I had to cancel my bar-hopping plans on Saturday with Jaemi over in Suwon…..
Well, finally last night I had had enough of staying in. So, at about [...]

Say What Now?

I enjoyed lunch today while reading the newspaper.
Well……….kinda.
OK, not really.
It took me almost 20 MINUTES just to read all the headings on the front page! Learning to read/write Korean is difficult enough. It sure isn’t encouraging to figure out what something says, and then not know what it MEANS.
Grrrrrrrr, Korea. I [...]

Bowling for Ice Cream

BRRRR!…. I’m just getting home Sunday night from bowling with Jaydon and IT’S COLD! We went to this old, little bowling alley not far from us and we put all our smack talk from the night before to the test.
The bet was on: best 2 out of 3, loser buys ice cream. [...]

Rosetta KimStone… I Mean Stone…

So, my dad and I found the Korean Rosetta Stone and hoooooolyyyyyy craaaaap. This language is HARD!!! It’s fun to “play” and the pictures are great, but whoooweeee, do I have my work cut out for me.
You know what the ironic part of all this is?
Up until two months ago, I lived with [...]
